Varsity Football Defeats Ida in Opening Round of Playoffs

On Friday, Oct. 28th the varsity football team hosted Ida for the first round of the playoffs.  Clinton was able to defeat Ida 44-23 to advance to the District Championship Game.  Ida came in with a power run offense and a team that was much better than their record indicated.  Clinton was able to rack up 307 yards rushing on the night.  Leading the way was Bradyn Lehman with 128 yards rushing on 13 carries and three touchdowns.  Joey Preston added 101 yards rushing on 17 carries and one touchdown. Jake Felts picked up 52 yards on 8 carries and two touchdowns.  Nik Shadley had 18 yards on six carries and picked up two 2 point conversions on the ground and another 2 point conversion on a pass from Coy Perry.  Zak Shadley picked up 12 yards on three carries and Andy Fair had 3 carries for -4 yards.  Andy Fair was 0 for 1 passing, but did complete a 2 point conversion pass to Nate Smith that was called back for a penalty.  Nik Shadley had two returns for 34 yards and Bradyn Lehman had a return for 11 yards.  Wyatt Federer had an onside recovery as well.  Blocking was critical and several individuals helped our team with huge pancake blocks.  Nate Smith led the way with 5 pancake blocks.  Brandon Felts had four, Jake Felts had three, Nate Page and Wyatt Hicks had two apiece.  Mason Brodie, Jacob Gilson, and Joey Preston each finished with one pancake block apiece.  

On Defense Wyatt Hicks and Jake Felts led the team with 8 tackles apiece.  Wyatt Hicks also caused a fumble and Jake Felts had a fumble recovery.  Nik Shadley had an interception to go along with two pass break ups.  Teddy Pizzio had a pass break up as well.  Tackles for losses were racked up by Wyatt Hicks with 3, Nate Smith with 2, and Jake Felts, Brandon Felts, Nik Shadley, and Teddy Pizzio each with one apiece.  

The offensive player of the game was Joey Preston for his blocking, fakes, and tough running.  Defensive player of the game was Wyatt Hicks for consistently reestablishing the line of scrimmage and playing great in the middle.  The special teams player of the game was Max Stitt for his consistent hustle and hard hits.  The Red Army Player was freshman Clifford Jones for his contribution during the week.  

On Friday, Nov. 4th Clinton hosts Ecorse for the MHSAA District Championship at 7pm.  We look forward to a great crowd at home to continue the post-season run.
