The road was unkind the Junior Varsity boys basketball team on Saturday afternoon.  The team turned in one of their more disappointing efforts of the season, just two days after putting together one of their better, and perhaps best, performances of the season, by falling to Summerfield 46-30.. 

From the start, the Redskins were playing with a deficit, as two starters were whistled for their second fouls before reaching the four minute of the first quarter.  Uncharacteristic shot selection, and turnovers on the offensive end, coupled with mental lapses on the defensive end had Summerfield out in front after the first quarter 13-5.  

Unfortunately, for the fans in attendance, there was not a whole lot of action in the second quarter.  Summerfield had several possesions that lasted a good minute as they would move the ball around the perimeter, before either converting a basket, or getting fouled and earing free throws.  The halftime score of 20-13 felt much larger than the seven point deficit that it actually was.

Despite trying to pick up the tempo in the second half, and changing up the defense multiple times, nothing seemed to jump start the offense.  Some credit has to be given to the Summerfied defense as they were solid the entire game and limited second chance opportunities by corralling the rebounds to come out with the decisive victory.

Despite the loss, the one bright spot for the Redskins was the play of Jacob Huddleston who continued his double digit scoring streak, finishing with 12 points on this afternoon.  Zach Kovach provided a much needed spark with his energy and defensive play in the third quarter to give the Redskins some hope of closing the gap.  With the loss, the Redskins JV drop to 9-5 overall, and 9-2 in the TCC, one game behind Summerfield in the loss column for the lead in the junior varsity TCC standings.   

Next up, the Redskins will face Morenci in another make-up game on Monday at home.  The JV game will tip at 5:30PM with the Varsity game set for 7:00PM.
