Boys Junior Varsity Basketball vs. Whiteford MS/HS

Game Date
Feb 18, 2019
Score
: 45
WHITEFORD MS/HS: 30

Winning a basketball game on the road is no easy task in the TCC.  You can't take anything for granted, and have to expect that you are going to get your best from your opponent.  That is exactly what the Redskin JV team got from their opposition on Monday evening, as they traveled to Whiteford for a makeup game against the Bobcats.

Whiteford came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, building a quick 10-2 lead just four minutes into the game.  The Redskins remained poised, and settled in and eventually made a 10-0 run of their own finish the first quarter up 2 by a score of 12-10.

More of the same ensued during the second quarter for the Redskins as they build a 10 point lead by playing stingy defense and executing on the offensive end.  At the half, Clinton was leading 26-18.

The defensive pressure picked up even more from Clinton in the third quarter, holding the Bobcats to only 2 points.  Meanwhile, the Redskin offense was slowly extending the lead, eventually building a 19 point advantage in the fourth quarter and winning by the final score of 45-30.

The win improves the JV team's record to 13-5 overall, and will finish 12-2 in the conference, all alone in second place, one game behind Summerfield.  The Redskins will finish out the season with two more games this week, both at home.

Leading the Redskins against Whiteford tonight were Davey Campbell, Eric Briggs, and Makai Cruz who all finished with 10 points.  Tommy Burt added 8 points to go along with solid interior defense.  Josh Schaffner came off of the bench to play his most complete game of the year.  He finished with 4 points, but his significance went way beyond his scoring total, as he brought a calmness and leadership role to the Redskin offense early in the game while Whiteford tried to swing for the fences.  Gavin Scott rounded out the Redskin offense for the evening by knocking down one three pointer to finish with 3 points.

The Redskins will face East Jackson of the Cascade conference tomorrow, Tuesday, February 19th, at home.  The JV game will tip at 5:30PM with the Varsity game slated for 7:00PM.
