Varsity wrestling finishes as team state runner-up

The varsity wrestling team entered the final 8 weekend at K-wings event center as the number one seed but fell to Hudson for the title. The weekend started on Friday with a matchup with Schoolcraft. The quarterfinal match started at 125 and senior Christian Minard got the win started with a pin for his 150th career win. That was followed by 9 more wins in a row for a 54-0 lead that would end up being a 66-10 victory. Clinton got pins from Noah Comar,George Ames, Spencer Konz, Brayden Randolph, Garrett Phillips, Cecil Rafferty, Jack Voll, deegan Herman, and AJ Baxter. Kent mcCombs and Jeff Konz added wins for the Redskins. 

In The semi-final it was perennial power New Lothrop who ended the Redskins season a year ago.  This time the dual started at 152 and New Lothrop's number one ranked wrestler got a win to start the dual. Then the Redskins won 3 in a row with Brayden Randolph getting a major decision win, Cecil Rafferty with a pin, and Logan Badge with an overtime 6-4 victory that made the score 13-3. New Lothrop answered with a pin at 215 and win at heavyweight to pull back to 13-12. Deegan Herman got a forfeit win before New Lothrop got a pin at 112 to keep the score at 1 point difference 19-18. Once again the 2 team split matches at 119 and 125 with AJ Baxter getting the win for the Redskins before a one point loss at 125 kept the score 22-21. From there the Redskins took over with a major decision by Noah Comar, 4-3 decision by Spencer Konz before Freshman Kent McCombs sealed the victory with an 11-6 decision. New Lothrop won the final bout to make the final 32-24. 

In the Final against the 2 time defending state champion Hudson Tigers things looked good early as Kent McCombs finished his fantastic weekend with a win to start the dual followed by a win by Riley Jeffrey to give the Redskins an early 6-0 lead. After losing at 152 Clinton took 2 of the next 3 by decision from Brayden Randolph and Major decision from Logan Badge sandwiching a pin from Hudson the score was 14-9 Clinton. Hudson the ripped off 4 pins and a dwin to put the dual out of reach 14-36. Noah Comar finished his last dual meet with a technical fall for the Redskins last points to close it to 19-36 before Hudson got the last two weight sto close the dual. The final was 45-19. The wrestling team finished the dual portion of the season as the first ever wrestling finalist and only the 3rd male team to finish runner-up or better with a record of 30-5. The 13 individuals that qualified for the individual finals will head to Ford Field for their chance at individual state titles starting Friday morning.
