Clinton Wrestling Qualifies 12 out of 14 to Regionals

On Saturday, Feb. 12th the boys varsity wrestling team traveled to Adrian Madison for the MHSAA Individual District Tournament.  Clinton enter 14 wrestlers and qualified 12 out of 14 to the individual regionals at Constantine.  At 103 pounds Braylon Long won the District Championship with a pin over Napoleon's Antonio Bocenegra in the second period.  Braylon also collected wins over Luke Rushing of Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard and Noah Barnes of Olivet each with pins.  Connor Younts took the District Championship at 112 pounds after defeating Jack Chambers of Williamston in the finals 9-5.  Connor also collected two pins over Caleb Rose of Quincy and Aiden Bocenegra of Napoleon on his way to the championship.  Connor Busz defeated Levi Smith of Hillsdale for his District Title at 119 pounds with a 12-1 major decision.  Busz collected two pins as well over Brenden Pickett of Michigan Center and Logan Hartman of Napoleon.  Zak Shaldey placed 2nd on the day dropping his final match 2-1 at 125 pounds.  Zak pinned George Masters of Michigan Center and defeated Lucas Leonard of Madison 7-0.  Chase Packard won the 130 pound championship after defeating Tyler Milks of Jonesville 8-2 in the championship match.  Packard also defeated Logan Winter of Columbia Central and Braxton Gates of Madison, each with a pin.  Coy Perry earned another District Championship for the Redwolves at 135 pounds after defeating Greg Dion of Williamston 8-4 in the championship match.  Coy pinned Colton Seiser of Blissfield and Jalon Borders of Madison on his way to the title.  At 140 pounds Maurice Ames placed third after defeating Liam Sullivan of Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard with a pin in round one, he then dropped his next match to Iam Albert of Napoleon.  Maurice battle back and pinned Geraldo Martinez of Blissfield to punch his ticket to regionals. But he wasn't done there as he pinned Matt Dion of Williamston to take 3rd at 140 pounds.  At 145 pounds Clinton double entered both Ethan Younts and Joey Preston and both qualified for Regionals.  Ethan Pinned Bradley Ellsworth of Hillsdale and Hunter Callahan of Napoleon to put himself in the finals.  Ethan placed second after dropping his finals match to Jonaceck of Williamston.  Joey pinned Nicholas Weber of Quincy in his opening match, then pinned Thomas Sturdevant of Columbia Central.  In the semi finals Joey dropped his match to Camden Jonaceck of Williamston.  Joey bounced back and defeated Brad Ellsworth from Hillsdale to punch his ticket to Regionals.  Preston then defeated Hunter Callahan of Napoleon to finish in third place at 145 pounds.  At 152 pounds senior George Ames placed second after defeating Adam Stutzman of Blissfield and Emmett Woodcock of Hillsdale with two straight pins.  George dropped his finals match to Mason Roth of Napoleon 2-1 to place second.  At 160 pounds Kent McCombs placed second as well after defeating Logan Lomas of Onsted and Austin Bowers of Jonesville both by pin.  In the finals Kent lost to Napoleon's Nick Marienfeld to place second.  At 171 pounds Jake Felts battled but just fell short of qualifying to regionals.  Jake came out and pinned Kaidin Somek of Stockbridge in his opening match.  Jake then fell to Stephen Peterson of Hillsdale in his second match.  In the match to qualify Jake was up 5-0 and wrestling really well, but made one mistake and lost to Jordan Vansickle of Jonesville.  At 189 pounds Logan Badge placed second after injury defaulting before the finals match took place.  Logan grabbed two quick pins over Carson Loader of Hillsdale and Isaac Shirley Joneville, both in the first period.  At 215 pounds Wyatt Hicks just fell short of qualifying to regionals as he pinned Zach Grey of Quincy to start the tournament, then pinned Collin Eggleston of Blissfield.  Hicks dropped his next match to Quade Mesarosh of Hillsdale and his final match to Evan McCarlley of Jonesville.  Overall we had a great day qualifying 12 out of 14 wrestlers and we look forward to the next event in the post season.
