Varsity Wrestling Qualifies 11 to Regionals

On Saturday, Feb. 11th the Clinton Boys Wrestling Team competed at the MHSAA Individual Districts hosted by Williamston High School. Overall the Redwolves qualified 11 to the MHSAA Individual Regionals at Adrian Madison on Saturday, Feb. 18th. 

Clifford Jones had a strong performance at individual districts starting off the day with a quick pin in the first in his first match, followed by a 10-2 victory in his second match of the day. Jones lost a tight battle in the semi-finals 8-7. Jones rebounded strong however, and finished his day with two straight pins, capturing third place at 144 pounds.  

Landon Lakatos fought hard, but fell in a close match in the first round of districts 9-8 at 175 pounds. 

Wyatt Hicks started his day off strong with a fall in the first period. Hicks unfortunately was pinned in the last second of the third period in his second match. Hicks recovered strong however, with a pin in the first period in his third match of the day. Hicks was eventually pinned in a tough scrap in his final match of the day in the second period. 

Nate Arntz started off his day strong with a fall in his opening match in the first period. Following a bump in the road in his second match, Arntz rattled off two wins, one by pin and another by an 8-2 decision. This led him to a fourth place finish. 

Connor Younts had a dominating performance at individual districts. Younts not only pinned his way through, he pinned every opponent in the first period to capture the 126 pound district championship.  

Tanner Bolton battled hard, but came up short in a first round defeat in way of pin at 132 pounds. 

Zack Shadley had an impressive day, Shadley pinned his way to the semi-finals where he came out on top 7-2. Shadley came up a little short in the finals however, earning himself a second place finish at 132 pounds.

Brenden Benschoter received a first round bye. He fell short in his first match of the day, but recovered nicely. Benschoter rattled off two pins to get to the third place match where he earned his third win of the day five to two at 120 pounds. 

Ethan Younts also received a first round bye. Younts then went on to win by pin and a decision in the semi-finals. After a hard fought battle, he came up short in the finals receiving second place honors at 150 pounds. 

Bryce Randolph started his day off with a bye, followed up strong with a pin in the first period of his opening match. Randolph dropped a tough one in his second match losing 1-2. He recovered nicely however, winning 14-1 and 7-0 to take home third place at 165 pounds. 

Braylon Long followed up his first round bye with a tech fall in his first match 15-0. Long received a pin at the end of the first period in his semi-final match. With the pin Long was sent to the finals and awarded first due to his opponent injury default and won the district championship at 113 pounds. 

Connor Busz, like Connor Younts, had a dominating performance at individual districts. Busz pinned his way all through the finals earning a first place finish and district title at 120 pounds.

Maurice Ames had a very strong performance on the day receiving an opening round bye and two first period pins. Ames fought extremely hard but ultimately dropped a close one 3-4 in the finals to finish second at 138 pounds

Hamza Rafferty had a strong performance at individual districts tallying up three victories along with a first round bye in route to a first place finish. Rafferty recorded two pins and an injury forfeit to claim a district championship at heavyweight.
