Varsity vs Olivet High School (43 - 21) Win Clinton Varsity Football opened the season at home against state ranked Olivet. Olivet has made the playoffs 18 years in a row and came in with a top ten ranking in division 6. Clinton was able to win 43-21. Clinton opened the scoring with a 15 yard pass from Gradyn Whelan to Dacari Garrison for the games first touchdown. The two point conversion was converted by Dacari Garrison on a run. Clinton was up 8-0. Olivet scored next on a 6 yard run, but the conversion was stopped. Clinton was still up 8-6 going into the second quarter. Olivet then hit a 30 yard pass to go up 12-8 and was able to convert the two point conversion to make it 14-8 Olivet. Clinton came down and put together a quick drive with Gradyn Whelan capping it off with a 7 yard touchdown run. The conversion failed. The score was 14-14 at the half. Olivet started the second half with the ball but a defensive stop gave Clinton the ball back. Braxton Randolph punched in a touchdown from 5 yards out and followed it up with a two point conversion. Clinton was up 22-14 at the end of the third. In the fourth quarter Bronson Whelan took one across the goal line with a four yard touchdown run. The conversion after was no good. Clinton was up 28-14. Olivet ripped off a long 66 yard touchdown run and converted the point after kick to make it Clinton 28 Olivet 21. Then Jaxon Phillip caught a 21 yard touchdown pass from Gradyn Whelan and Bronson Whelan punched in the two point conversion. Clinton 36 Olivet 21. Clinton had another score in them as Gradyn Whelan went 12 yards for a touchdown on the ground and Jaxen Speth converted the extra point kick. The final score was Clinton 43 Olivet 21. Leading rusher was Braxton Randolph with 157 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown and two point conversion. Gradyn Whelan had 59 yards on 8 carries for two touchdowns. Gradyn also threw for 64 yards and two more touchdowns on 5 of 10 passing. Bronson Whelan had 57 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown as well as a catch for five yards. Jake Halchishak had three carries for 20 yards. Jaxon Phillip had 11 yards rushing and caught a pass for 21 yards and a touchdown. Dacari Garrison had two receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown, then ran in a two point conversion. He also had two rushes for 40 yards. Jacob Pope caught a pass for 11 yards as well. Daejaun Garrison and Isaac Keibler each had rushing attempts as well. Pancake blocks on offense were led by Owen Wright with 3, Braxton Randolph and Roman Roberts with 2 each, Jonah Hahn, Jake Halchishak, and Jacob Pope all having one a piece. On Defense it was Braxton Randolph leading the way with 8.5 tackles, Bronson Whelan, Owen Wright, Isaac Keibler, and Jaxon Phillip all had three tackles. Gradyn Whelan had 2.5 tackles, while Jake Halchishak, Dacari Garrison, and Paul Blanchard each had two tackles apiece. Others with tackles on the night were Jacob Pope, Jaxen Speth, and Drew Erickson. Daejaun Garrison caused two fumbles and recovered one of them. Gradyn Whelan had a sack and Jacob Pope had a sack and a tackle for a loss. Offensive Player of the Game was Braxton Randolph. Defensive Player of the Game was Jacob Pope. Red Army Player of the Week was Brody Wenn. Special Teams Player of the Game was Drew Erickson. Clinton starts LCAA Conference play against Blissfield on the road next.
