The Clinton Redwolves volleyball team battled through a competitive day of volleyball, finishing 1-2 while showing resilience, offensive firepower, and strong defensive effort throughout the day. Clinton opened against D2 ranked Tecumseh in a hard-fought three-set battle. The Redwolves took the opening set 25-20, but Tecumseh responded with a 25-22 win in the second. The deciding set went all the way to the wire before Tecumseh claimed a 27-25 victory. Clinton then faced another ranked D2 team, Parma Western and continued to compete but fell in 2 sets. The Redwolves dropped the first 21-15 and then second set 17-25 to Parma Western. The Redwolves finished the day on a high note with a dominant performance against D2 Ida, winning 25-12, 25-6. The Redwolves were led offensively by Addison Loftis with 24 kills, while Bella Bannon added 21 kills, Rylee Pepper contributed 15 kills while Abby Sheneman had 13 kills. As a team, Clinton recorded 86 kills on 244 attempts for a .209 hitting percentage on the night. Clinton’s balanced attack continues to help the Wolves compete and rely on all hitters. Clinton’s defense was a major factor throughout the day as well. The team recorded 154 digs as a team. Lila Kennedy led in digs with 33, followed by Avery Loftis with 25 digs, Addison Loftis with 23 digs. Rylee Pepper recorded 16, while Calli Kruger had 15 digs, Emily Farmer had 12 digs and Zoey Riddle had 18 digs. At the service line, Clinton also had a strong day, recording 15 aces while serving at a team efficiency of 94.3%. Avery Loftis went 25-for-25 with an ace and 11 points, while Emily Farmer went 25-for-25 with two aces and 11 points. Addison Loftis contributed 21 points and 2 aces, Calli Kruger had 15 points and 4 aces. Lila Kennedy had 12 points as Bella Bannon rounded the servers out with 10 points from the line. The Redwolves serve receive remained solid last night, as the team passed a 2.4 rating against tough serving teams. Addison Loftis led with a 2.9 serve receive rating on 21 attempts followed by Zoey Riddle with a 2.6 on 19 attempts and Calli Kruger with a solid 2.4 rating on 22 attempts. Having this as a focus has been a top priority for Clinton and they continue to build on their abilities and communication while in serve receive. While the Redwolves finished the day 1-2, the team showed plenty of positives to build on during the tough competition. From the close 25-27 battle with Tecumseh to the dominant finish against Ida, Clinton demonstrated its ability to compete, respond to adversity, and finish strong. Clinton will look to carry that momentum into its next matches as the Redwolves continue to grow and compete as a team. They are back in action at home on Tuesday, September 15th against an LCAA opponent- Onsted. JV at 5:30 pm and Varsity to follow at 7:00 pm. Then the Wolves host the 1st ever Region 13 Showdown on Saturday, September 19th starting at 8:30 am at Clinton High School.
