On Friday, Sept. 18th Clinton shut out Onsted 74-0 in an explosive offensive and defensive night. The first quarter Clinton scored 24 points to open the game up right away. Clinton started with the ball and marched down the field with Bronson Whelan running it in from 15 yards out for the games first touchdown. Clinton attempted the two point conversion and Dacari Garrison went in for the score. Clinton was up 8-0. After a defensive stop, Braxton Randolph took the ball 63 yards for a touchdown on the ground. On the two point attempt Gradyn Whelan threw a pass connecting with Jaxon Phillip for the conversion. Clinton was up 16-0. On the next offensive drive Gradyn Whelan connected with Paul Blanchard for a 16 yard touchdown pass. The drive was capped off with another two point conversion run, this time by Bronson Whelan. Clinton was up 24-0 at the end of the first quarter. Opening the second quarter was a long touchdown pass from Gradyn Whelan to Bronson Whelan for 61 yards. Jaxon Phillip was called again to convert the two point play. Clinton 32 Onsted 0. Number 24 Jaxon Phillip was called again and he converted on the 3 yard touchdown. This time the conversion failed. Clinton 38 Onsted 0. Next up was Dacari Garrison with a 6 yard run in for the touchdown with Bronson Whelan converting the two point play after. Clinton 46 Onsted 0. Another pass and catch for a touchdown from Gradyn Whelan to Jake Halchishak for 25 yards was completed. Gradyn Whelan took it in for the two point conversion him on a running play. Clinton 54 Onsted 0. Still in the second quarter Dacari Garrison found the endzone again on a 6 yard run. Jaxen Speth converted on the extra point kick to make the score Clinton 61 Onsted 0 at halftime. After halftime the clock was running continuously by MHSAA rule. In the third quarter Jaxon Phillip took it into the endzone with a run from 20 yards out for the touchdown. The extra point kick was wide. Clinton 67 Onsted 0. The final score of the night was by Grant Talaga who was up from the JV team as he took it in from 2 yards out for the touchdown. Jaxen Speth converted the PAT. Final score was Clinton 74 Onsted 0 for Clinton's second straight defensive shut out. Overall Clinton rushed for 311 yards on the ground, passed for another 141 yards in the air for a total of 452 yards of total offense. Leading rushers were Braxton Randolph with 134 yards on 5 attempts and a touchdown. Dacari Garrison had 50 yards on 4 attempts, two touchdowns, and a two point conversions. Jake Halchishak had 28 yards on two attempts. Jaxon Phillip had 28 yards as well with two touchdowns and two 2 point conversions. Freshman Brayden Lauer had 22 yards on 4 attempts. Bronson Whelan had 22 yards and a touchdown on two attempts, as well as two 2 point conversions. Freshman Brady Alhers had 9 yards on 2 attempts. Grant Talaga had 8 yards on 2 attempts and a touchdown. Noah Jenkins had 5 yards on 1 attempt. Aiden Hall had 3 yards on 1 attempt, and Gradyn Whelan had 2 yards on 1 attempt. Gradyn Whelan completed 5 out of 8 pass attempts for 141 yards in the air with 3 touchdowns, and a two point conversion in the air. Receiving leaders were Bronson Whelan with two catches for 70 yards and a touchdown. Jaxon Phillip had one catch for 30 yards. Jake Halchishak had one catch for 25 yards and a touchdown. Paul Blanchard had a catch for 16 yards good for a touchdown. Pancake blocks were made by Owen Wright(2), Zander Urban(2), Royce Martinez(2), Roman Roberts(1), Grant Kutzley(1), Jonah Hahn(1), and Aiden Hall(1). Defensively Onsted was held to 13 yards passing on one completion and 45 yards rushing on 37 attempts. For a total of 58 yards of offense on the night. Leading tackler was Gradyn Whelan with 7.5 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a sack. Next was Braxton Randolph with 7 tackles and two interceptions with 32 return yards. Daejaun Garrison retuned to action with 4 tackles on the night and a tackle for a loss. Owen Wright who had four tackles as well to go along with a tackle for a loss. Those with two tackles on the night were: Bronson Whelan(2.5), Jacob Pope(2) and a tackle for a loss, Lucas Coughlin(2), Jake Halchishak(2) and a tackle for a loss, Jaxon Phillip(2) and a tackle for a loss, and Roman Roberts(2.5).
