On Saturday, December 18th the girls varsity wrestling team hosted an all girls varsity tournament.  Clinton came away with six placers and three champions.  Michelle Arntz competed at 110 pounds and battled to a third place finish on the day.   In round one of a round robin bracket, Michelle took on Gabby Motz of Laingsburg, the number 2 girl in the state and lost a tough match.  The next match Michelle faced another top ten competitor when she wrestled Savannah Winkleblack of Montague and dropped a hard fought match.  In her placement match for third Michelle battled for a takedown early in the match and that proved to be the difference in a close 2-1 win.  Sophomore returning state finalist Faith Blackburn racked up four matches and came away with four wins for the tournament championship at 130 pounds.  Faith had a round robin bracket as well.  In round one Faith pinned K. Connolly in 1:24 to open her tournament.  In round two picked up the fastest pin of the day in just 12 seconds over E. Yuhasz.  Round three came around and again Faith picked up a first period pin in 59 seconds over H. Haily.  Round four saw a great match as Faith defeated S. Hayes 8-5.  In the finals Faith, who is currently ranked number one in her weight class took on the number two girl in the state D. Swihart and won the tournament championship 5-1.  Freshman Raven Aldridge battled through her eight person bracket to win the tournament championship at 135 pounds and show why she is a challenger for the end of the season run.  In round one Raven picked up a 30 second pin over Alyssa Burr of Whittmore Prescott.  In round two Raven picked up a second period pin over Breauna Swinehart of Constantine in 2:46, who is currently ranked 7th in the state.  In the Finals Raven wrestled Sienna Tovar of Jackson and earned a pin in 1:17 for the tournament championship at 135 pounds.  Senior Taylor Randolph battled through her round robin tournament and earned the tournament championship at 140 pounds.  Taylor opened the tournament with a pin in 21 seconds over Garance Mesribian of Whittmore Prescott.  In round two she faced Emma Pendell, who is currently ranked 6th in the state, and was in a war of a match before earning the pin in the third period.  In her final match of the day Taylor earned a 4-0 decision against  Jessica Martinez of West Catholic who is sitting at 6th in the state at a higher weight class.  At 155 pounds Leanne Mercier placed 4th in a tough weight class.  She battled through her 8 person bracket that had three ranked girls. Leanne lost her opening match 2-7 to Natalie Tobey who is ranked third at the weight above.  Then Leanne picked up a pin against Madison Kennedy of Whittmore Prescott in 2:18.  In her match for third she lost a tough match 1-8 to Ava Pelton of Montague and finished in fourth place on the day.  Jayden Roza bummed up for the day and competed at 170 pounds to earn a third place finish.  Jayden started her day off with a pin over Kennedy Nason of Lansing Waverly in 50 seconds.  What a great moment that was watching her earn her first pin of the year.  Jayden then fell to the number two girl in the state Bo Geibe of Constantine and to Maddie Ward of Niles Brandywine.  The girls competed well throughout the day and it was nice to see them shine in the first all girls tournament of the year.  Being at home was nice for the girls as well, to compete in front of their home crowd.
