Clinton Battles Dundee and Ida at LCAA Quad

On Wednesday, Jan. 19th the Redwolves traveled to Ida for an LCAA quad match against Dundee and Ida.  Clinton wrestled Dundee first in a battle of state championship teams from 2021.  Dundee who is currently ranked #1 in division 3 and Clinton who is up a division is currently ranked #2 in division 3.  Dundee is also ranked in the top 50 of the nation.  Clinton had its work cut out for them, but competed great throughout the dual. Dundee opened the dual and went on a run going up 19-0 after the first four matches.  The match started by random draw at 140 pounds were Maurice Ames lost to Trey Parker by decision 7-14.   Ethan Younts then battled Logan Sander but lost by major decision 0-9.  Rourke Solomonson stepped in at 152 pounds and was pinned by Aiden Davis.  Gage Blackburn went up to 160 pounds and was pinned by Casey Swiderski who is ranked #1 in the nation at his weight class.  Team score Clinton 0 Dundee 19, then senior Kent McCombs stepped in up and changed the momentum for Clinton as he competed at 171 pounds against 10th ranked Connor Collins and earned a 15-0 technical fall to put Clinton on the board, Clinton 5 Dundee 19.  Logan Badge then earned a pin at 189 pounds over Ethan Collins to make the team score Clinton 11 Dundee 19.  Nate Smith made his season debut at 215 pounds against Kaden Hubbell and lost a tough match.  Clinton 11 Dundee 25.  Brandon Felts earned a pin in the first period to make the score Clinton 17 Dundee 25.  Freshman Braylon Long defeated 10th ranked Ashton Viers with a pin at 103 pounds.  Clinton 23 Dundee 25.  Clinton went ahead after the 112 pound match, which featured two returning state champs.  Clinton's Connor Younts and Dundee's Kade Kluce.  Connor Younts was able to earn and escape and takedown in the second period after a scoreless first period.  Kluce posted two escapes of his own, one in the second and the other in the third period.  Connor came away with a 3-2 win the put Clinton up 26-25 with four matches to go.  Connor Busz suffered his first loss of the year at 119 pounds to Cam Chinavare 4-10.  Chase Packard battle Braeden Davis at 125 pounds who is also the number one wrestler in the country at his weight class.  Chase was pinned late in the third period and made the score Clinton 26 Dundee 34.  Nik Shadley faced a returning state champion in Kaden Chinavare and lost a close 2-5 decision.  Coy Perry competed at 135 pounds and lost a 1-2 decision to Kole Katschor.  Final score was Dundee 40 Clinton 26.  This was a great dual that our team battled and competed hard the entire dual.  Several key wrestlers were out for various reasons for Clinton so it will make the dual more exciting the next time they see each other.  Clinton defeated Ida by a score of 75-6 in the second dual.  Collecting pins against Ida were Kent McCombs, Connor Younts, Connor Busz, Nik Shadley, and Coy Perry.   Others with wins were Ethan Younts, Gage Blackburn, Jake Felts, Nate Smith, Braylon Long, Chase Packard, and Zak Shadley.  Michelle Arntz was able to get a match against Abigaile Newman and earned a pin to finish up the night.  Clinton tavels to Fowlerville Friday, Jan. 21st for girls tournament and to Lowell on Saturday, Jan. 22nd for a varsity boys team tournament.
