Wrestling Competes at the L.C.A.A. Tournament

The wrestling team hosted the LCAA Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 5th and came out in second place with 198 points, Dundee was first with 223 points and Hudson was third with 172 points.  Clinton had eight finalists and came away with three champions.  Senior Kent McCombs earned a league title at 160 pounds after he defeated Calix Campbell from Hudson 5-1 in the championship match.  Along the way McCombs picked up a pin over Logan Lomas of Onsted.  Braylon Long grabbed a league championship at 103 pounds after earning a pin over Josh Deline from Hudson and defeating Ashton Viers of Dundee in the finals 10-0.  Brandon Felts picked up a league championship at heavyweight as well after pinning Matt Hutieker of Blissfield, then pinning Marcus Butler of Onsted.  Brandon then pinned Hudson's Ethan Harris in the finals to win the championship.  Connor Younts placed second at 112 pounds losing to Kade Kluce of Dundee in the finals.  Connor Busz placed second after defeating Levi Smith of Hillsdale by major decision 12-0 and dropped a closely contested match 12-7 to Cam Chinevare of Dundee at 119 pounds.  Zak Shadley lost a tough match 5-4 to Cole Marry of Hudson, but bounced back and pinned Armani Spaulding of Columbia Central at 125 pounds and then pinned Joey Denkins of Onsted to place third.  Chase Packard finished third at 130 pounds after pinning Logan Winter of Columbia Central to open the tournament.  Chase then lost a close 5-1 decision to Kannon Marry of Hudson.  Chase bounced back and picked up a 16-3 major decision over Griffin Jeffrey of Blissfield.  Coy Perry defeated Colton Seiser from Blissfield with a first period pin and followed that up with a 5-0 win over former all stater Jackson Miller of Hudson at 135 pounds.  In the finals Coy lost to Logan Sander of Dundee 3-0 to take second.  Maurice Ames placed third at 140 pounds after dropping a match to Trey Parker of Dundee 12-3, Maurice then pinned Chase Stevens of Blissfield to take third.  Ethan Younts finished runner up at 145 pounds after pinning Dylan England in the first period, then defeating former all stater Payton Rogers from Hudson 7-2.  Ethan lost in the finals to Aiden Davis of Dundee to finish second.  George Ames started his tournament out pinning Isaiah Machuca from Ida in the first period, then lost a tough match to Aiden Barrett of Hudson 7-5.  George then pinned Colton Plate of Columbia Central before defeating Emmett Woodcox 9-3 of Hillsdale to take third at 152 pounds.  Jake Felts lost to Stephan Peterson of Hillsdale 12-1, then lost to Logan Ryan of Hudson to take fourth place.  Logan Badge finished in runner up position after injury defaulting in the finals to Hudson's Cameron Kimble.  Earlier in the day Logan pinned former state qualifier Trenton Warner of Onsted at 189 pounds.  Clinton did not have a 215 pounder entered on the day due to a last minute illness, but still battled to a second place finish as a team.  We continue to over come adversity and challenges that are placed before us.  We are excited about the post season and earning some things to come.
