Wrestling Goes 2-0 at Mason Quad

The Clinton Wrestling Team travel to Mason up by Lansing on Wednesday, Dec. 13th for a quad against Portland and Haslett.  The result was Clinton collecting two dominant wins.  The opening match was against Portland who is ranked in division 3 as an honorable mention team.  Clinton took over the match from start to finish.  Sophomore Austin Putnam started off his varsity debut for the season at 150 pounds after winning the JV tournament on Saturday and came through with a pin for the Redwolves.  Austin picked up two takedowns and a set of nearfall points on his way to the pin.  At 157 pounds Cliff Jones earned a 12-4 major decision and good for 4 team points after earning four takedowns in the match.  Bryce Randolph collected a first period pin at 165 pounds.  At 175 pounds John Keibler picked up a 7-2 win with three different takedowns, one in each period.  Will Hawkins dropped his match at 190 pounds.  Wyatt Hicks picked the momentum back up with a pin at 215 pounds.  Hamza Rafferty won another overtime match 2-1 at heavyweight.  At 106 pounds Hudson Miller battled but lost his match.  Zach Taylor competed at 113 pounds and earned a second period pin after two takedowns and two sets of nearfall points.  Senior Nate Arntz bumped up to 120 pounds and came away with a 10-1 major decision for the Redwolves.  Nate collected three takedowns in the match.  At 126 pounds Braylon Long picked up two sets of nearfall points before he got the pin.  Connor Younts earned a forfeit win and Maurice Ames collected a first period pin.  Dylan Badge lost a hard fought match 4-5 at 144 pounds as the Redwolves Defeated Portland 56-15.

In the second match of the night Clinton dominated Haslett 78-3.  Collecting pins on the night were Bryce Randolph at 165, Will Hawkins at 190, Wyatt Hicks at 215, Nate Arntz at 113, Zach Taylor at 120, Connor Younts at 132, and Maurice Ames at 138.  Other wrestlers earning wins were Cliff Jones at 157, Landon Lakatos at 175, Hamza Rafferty at Hwt., Hudson Miller at 106, Braylon Long at 126, and Joe Hodges at 132.  

We were able to get a lot of JV matches and a few girls varsity matches on the night as well.  Raven Aldridge picked up a first period pin, as did Faith Blackburn in her season debut.  Starting out JV matches, Carson Ehnis pick up a pin at 190 pounds.  Chance Maddox won at 215 pounds in overtime 6-4.  Lucase Coughlin earned a pin at 138 pounds and Cory Hoover got a pin at 144 pounds.  Jonah Hahn grabbed a pin at 144 pounds as well.  Lucas Goetting dropped a match 3-13 at 150 pounds.  Aiden Johnson lost his match at 150 pounds as well.  Owen Wright battled all match and won 8-2 up at 175 pounds.  Drew McNatt went into overtime and lost a tight one 1-0.  Carson Ehnis picked up a second match but fell short this time at 190 pounds.  Chance Maddox ended the night at 215 pounds with a pin in the second period.  

This Wednesday, Dec. 20th Clinton will host State Ranked Bronson at home starting at 5:30pm.  This will be a single dual with both JV and Varsity competing.  We have Clinton Youth Wrestling Night that will be recognized at intermission.  We will have intermission after the first seven varsity matches are complete and finish the remaining seven matches after intermission.  We will also we welcoming our competitive cheer team the meet and they will preform at intermission as well.   To cap the night off we will be honoring our 10 year Anniversary of the first Clinton Wrestling Team to qualify for the Team State Championships.  We will be welcoming the 2013-2014 wrestling team back for special recognition.  It is sure to be a fun, action packed night.  Come out and see your 5th ranked Redwolves compete with many special guests.  We look forward to an exciting night.
