Clinton Takes Down #3 Union City, Younts wins 150th Career Match

Clinton Wrestling traveled to Union City on Wednesday, Jan. 17th to compete against the Chargers of Union City and Springport.  Union City is currently ranked 3rd in division 4 and Clinton came away with a dominant win 47-25.  The match started at heavyweight with Hamza Rafferty getting things going with a pin in 1:58.  Then Nate Arntz competed at 106 pounds against Blayne Crance who came in as the 5th ranked wrestler in the state at 26-0, but Nate grabbed the opening takedown and ended the match with a pin to put the score at Clinton 12 Union City 0.  Zach Taylor stepped in at 113 pounds and picked up a 13-1 major decision and just missed the pin during the match as he took down the 15th ranked wrestler in the state.  Joe Hodges and Braylon Long picked up wins at 120 and 126 pounds.  Connor Younts then picked up career win number 150 with a 21-8 major decision.  This is a huge accomplishment and should be congratulated for his dedication and work ethic to achieve a win total that few get.  Congratulations Connor.  Maurice Ames competed at 138 pounds and pinned Kaleb Miller in the second period.  At 144 pounds Austin Putnam faced the defending state champ and came up short.  At 150 pounds Dylan Badge lost 5-10.  Tanner Bolton made his season debut with the Redwolves, but fell short at 157 pounds.  Bryce Randolph picked up a pin at 165 pounds to get the team in the win column again.  Making the score Clinton 44 Union City 15.  John Keibler dropped a 2-12 match at 175 pounds and Will Hawkins dropped his match at 190 pounds.  Wyatt Hicks finished the night in dramatic fashion as the senior tends to do as he took down the 5th ranked Hunter Gillies with a 7-0 win to make the final score Clinton 47 Union City 25.  In extra matches AJ Johnson dropped his match at 150 pounds.  Lucas Coughlin picked up a pin in 3:28 at 138 pounds.  Cory Hoover picked up a major decision win 13-2 at 144 pounds with four takedowns in his match.  Lucas Goetting picked up a pin at 15o pounds in the first period.  Jayden Duplessis competed at 165 pounds and won with a 6-2 score.  Carson Ehnis dropped his match at 190 pounds.  Chance Maddox picked up a win at 215 pounds by pin in the first period.  Drew McNatt also collected a win at heavyweight with a 2-0 victory.  

In the second dual of the night Clinton defeated Springport 63-15.  The match started at 106 pounds and Nate Arntz picked up yet another pin in the first period.  Zach Taylor got a pin in the second period at 113 pounds.  Joe Hodges went the distance at 120 pounds winning 5-2.  Braylon Long earned a first period pin at 126 pounds.  Jake Halchishak picked up a pin in the first period at 132 pounds.  Connor Younts won at 138 pounds.  Maurice Ames had another first period pin at 144 pounds.  Tanner Bolton and Owen Wright dropped their matches at 150 and 157 pounds.  Bryce Randolph picked up the pin in 1:24 at 165.  Landon Lakatos lost a hard fought match at 175, 6-11.  Will Hawkins picked up a win by pin at 190 pounds.  Wyatt Hicks won at 215 pounds.  At heavyweight Hamza Rafferty finished the night with a pin for the Redwolves.  

Friday our girls team travels to Birmingham Groves High School for a girls tournament, our varsity Red team travels to Qunicy High School for a varsity tournament on Saturday.  And our Varsity Black team travels to Williamston for a tournament on Saturday as well.
