On Friday, Jan. 26th Clinton had 9 boys and 4 girls qualify for the county tournament hosted at Adrian College.  This premier event is a showcase in front of a packed house at Adrian College's Merillat Center Performance Gym.  There was standing room only throughout the night and the crowd was loud and created a fun environment for all.  At 106 pounds Nate Arntz started the day off in the semi finals but was injured just seconds into his match and was unable to continue on the night, so he defaulted to 4th place.  Only the top four in each weight qualify for the event which consists of a semi final and final in each weight class.  Braylon Long competed at 120 pounds and defeated Rothman of Blissfiield who previously had only one loss.  Long won 14-8 and advanced to the final were he dropped a very close 2-1 decision to take 2nd place.  Connor Younts competed at 132 pounds and defeated Mohr of Madison with an 18-3 technical fall to advance to the finals.  Connor then defeated Trevino with another technical fall 23-7 for his third county championship.  Maurice Ames competed at 138 pounds and was stunned in the first round by Leonard of Madison, but bounced back to defeat Denkins of Onsted with a pin for 3rd place.  Dylan Badge competed at 144 pounds and lost first round 0-2 and took a win by injury default to take 3rd.  Annabelle Howard defeated Pifer at a 140/145 weight class for girls by pin in the second period to advance to the finals.  The freshman finished her day by defeating Clark of Hudson and winning a county championship.  Kierra Fivenson dropped her first match but bounced back with with a pin over Phifer for 3rd place in the 140/145 girls weight class.  Faith Blackburn received an opening round bye to advance to the finals, then defeated Bakewell from Adrian by pin in the first period to win her third county championship.  Raven Aldridge also received a first round bye at the 155/170 weight class to advance to the finals and then defeated Monroe from Sand Creek with a first period pin and a county championship.  Cliff Jones was coming off an injury so he competed up a weight at 165 pounds and defeated Cabrerra of Madison 11-4 to advance to the finals.  In the finals Cliff competed against Cooper Barkway of Tecumseh, who came in with only 2 losses.  Cliff went to work right away and won the match by major decision 10-0 to win his first count championship.  At 175 Bryce Randolph went up a weight class as well to take on a weight with three ranked wrestlers.  In the opening round Bryce defeated Torres of Tecumseh with a first period pin.  In the finals Randolph took on the division 4, 2nd ranked wrestler Logan Ryan of Hudson.  Bryce was able to win his second county championship with a 10-2 major decision.  Wyatt Hicks competed at 215 pounds and defeated Schamburger of Sand Creek 7-6 in his opening match.  In the finals Wyatt lost in double overtime 2-3 to take 2nd.  Hamza Rafferty opened his first match with first period pin over Hulett of Sand Creek to advance to his second county final.  But in the finals Rafferty lost to Russel of Madison by pin in the first period.  Overall our wrestlers competed hard, but we are looking forward to the post season and competing even better in the future.  This Friday, Feb. 2nd Clinton travels to Ida for start the LCAA Dual Tournament with two duals on Friday, followed by five duals on Saturday at Hudson, starting at 9am Saturday.  Our girls will be traveling to Midland for their last regular season tournament that starts at 10m,  before their MHSAA Regional Tournament.
