Clinton Competes at LCAA Dual Tournament

After going 2-0 on the opening Friday night Clinton started the day Saturday against Dundee, the number 1 team in division 3 and returning state champions.  Clinton lost 66-7 before bouncing back against Onsted to win 51-27, then defeat Madison 44-27 in round five.  In round six Clinton defeated Hillsdale 53-27 before dropping their final dual to Hudson 54-16.  Clinton finished LCAA duals with a 5-2 record for the new dual tournament format that saw our team compete in 7 matches in less that 18-24 hours.  Against Dundee winners were Wyatt Hicks at 215 and Hamza Rafferty at Hwt. 

During the Onsted dual winners were Nate Arntz with a pin at 106, Zach Taylor with a pin at 113, Connor Younts at 138 with a pin.  Cliff Jones picked up the fall at 150 pounds.  Jayden Duplessis earned a pin at 165 pounds in his first year on the mat.  Bryce Randolph picked up a quick pin at 175 pounds.  John Keibler earned an 8-2 decision win at 190 pounds, while Wyatt Hicks and Hamza Rafferty both picked up pins at 215 and Hwt.  

When Clinton faced Madison both lineups were shifted and getting ready for Team Districts on Wednesday at Clinton.  Nate Arntz picked up the win at 106 with an 8-5 decision.  Zach Taylor dropped his match 10-17 in a back and forth match at 113 pounds.  Jake Halchishak picked up a 4-2 win at 132 pounds for the Redwolves.  Connor Younts earned a 17-2 technical fall over Leonard of Madison at 138 pounds.  Austin Putnam earned a pin at 144 pounds, and Cliff Jones grabbed a pin at 150 pounds.  Bryce Randolph won at 165 with a pin and John Keibler won 10-4 at 175. Will Hawkins picked up a pin at 190 pounds followed by Wyatt Hick at 215 and Hamza Rafferty at Hwt., both with pins of their own.  In round six Clinton defeated Hillsdale with wins at 106 by Nate Arntz with a pin, Zach Taylor at 113, and  pin by Joe Hodges at 120.  Connor Younts picked up the fall at 132 pounds, and Tanner Bolton picked up the win at 150 pounds.  Cliff Jones and Bryce Randolph had back to back pins at 157 and 165 before Landon Lakatos won at 175.  Hamza Rafferty picked up another pin at Hwt.  In the final round Clinton competed against host Hudson.  Nate Arntz came away with a 3-1 win at 106, Connor Younts picked up a 7-2 win at 132. Bryce Randolph won at 165 14-3, and Wyatt Hicks picked up a pin at 215 pounds to finish for the Redwolves.  

This Wednesday, Feb. 7th Clinton will host Team Districts starting at 5:30pm.  Clinton will wrestle Onsted starting at 5:30 and Madison will take on Blissfield in the other semi final action.  The winners of each dual will compete for an MHSAA District Championship immediately following the semi final duals.  On Saturday Clinton will travel to the MHSAA Individual Districts hosted by Williamston High School starting at 9am.
