Wrestling Qualifies 10 To Individual Regionals

Game Date
Feb 10, 2024

On Saturday, Feb. 10th Clinton Wrestling traveled to Williamston High School for the MHSAA Individual District Tournament.  Clinton qualified 10 wrestlers to the MHSAA Individual Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 17th at Constantine High School.  You have to place in the top four of your weight class to advance to Regionals, so getting 10 of our 14 weight classes through to Regionals was a great day.  Now at Individual Regionals wrestlers have to place in the top four again to qualify for the MHSAA State Championships at Ford Field.

Clinton came away with 5 District Champions and 5 other qualifiers.  Leading the way and winning championships were Nate Arntz at 106 pounds.  Nate picked up three pins on the day enroute to his District Championship.  Braylon Long won the 126 pounds championship with two pins and a 10-5 win in the championship match.  Connor Younts won the 132 pounds weight class with a technical fall, two pins, and a major decision in the finals to win his championship.  This was Connor's 4th district championship, which is an amazing accomplishment.  Cliff Jones won a regional title in the 150 pound championship.  Cliff picked up a pin, a 7-4 decision, and a 7-0 decision in the finals.  Bryce Randolph won the 175 pound championship with two pins and a 4-2 decision in the championship match.  Zach Taylor took 3rd place at 113 pounds after three pins on the day.  Joe Hodges lost his opening match and was eliminated at 120 pounds.  Maurice Ames placed second at 138 pounds after picking up two pins and an 8-4 decision on the day.  Dylan Badge took third at 144 pounds, picking a pin, a 12-4 major decision, and a 7-4 decision on the day.  John Keilber competed at 165 pounds and lost a tough match  4-6 before bowing out of the tournament with a 0-12 loss.  Landon Lakatos competed at 175 and picked up a pin, before losing to a teammate, and a 3-10 loss to end his day.  Will Hawkins lost his opening match at 190 pounds to end his day.  Wyatt Hicks placed 2nd at 215 pounds and picked up two pins and a win in overtime to advance to the finals.  Hamza Rafferty placed 3rd overall at heavyweight.   Rafferty picked up two pins and a 1-0 win on the day.

Our 10 individual regional qualifiers will travel to Constantine on Saturday, Feb. 17th for a chance to wrestle in the state championships.  We look forward to our continued postseason run over the next several weeks.
