It was a tale of two halves for the Clinton varsity football team in its 41-28 season-opening win over Manchester. The Redskins sprinted to a 28-0 halftime lead Thursday before lightning forced the game’s postponement until Friday evening.
The second half saw Clinton chew seven minutes off the clock on its opening drive to take a 35-0 lead. The Redskins actually pushed their lead to 41-8 before a flurry of Manchester touchdowns in the final stanza.
Noah DeShano scored four touchdowns and finished with a team-leading 241 yards on the ground. Jack Voll rushed for 167 yards on 13 carries with one score, and Davey Campbell added 147 rush yards and a touchdown. Campbell sparked the defense with a key interception on a Manchester screen pass in the second quarter, which led to Clinton’s third touchdown. Jonathan Baughey was 5-for-5 on extra points on the night.
The Redskins, ranked seventh in the state in Division 7, will square off against the fifth-ranked (Division 6) Blissfield at Wegner Field Friday. The Royals knocked off Whiteford, 33-14, to open their season.
