To make up for the 4 cancelled games in the first week of season, Clinton jumped into the Brighton High School tournament this Saturday. Clinton finished 1st in their pool, but lost in the semifinals, dropping them into the 3rd or 4th place bracket. Winning via forfeit, Clinton takes 3rd place out of 12 teams, going 3-1 on the day. Game 1: Clinton 1 Montrose 0 Kendall Phillip threw a 1 hit shut out with 12 strikeouts in this pitcher%u2019s dual. Freshman Kaylin Sposite had the only hit, with a double. Taryn Hernandez hit a deep fly ball reaching 3rd on the error from the outfielder. She scored on a drop 3rd strike play%u2026 being the only run of the game. Game 2: Clinton 5 Brighton 1 Taryn Hernandez collects the win, with 3 strikeouts and allowing 3 hits. Brighton scored on Clinton%u2019s lone defensive error. Hernandez led the offense going 3-3 with a double and 1 RBI. Kylinn Long was 1-2 with an RBI double. Kaylin Sposite was 1-1 with an RBI. Kendall Phillip was 1-2 with 2 stolen bases. Game 3: Garden City 6 Clinton 3 Phillip went 2.1 innings, allowing 6 hits with 3 strikeouts. Brenna Broman came in relief getting Clinton out of a jam. After 3 innings, Clinton led 3-2. But, the Cougars put together a 4 run 4th inning and Broman took the loss. However, Broman led the offense going 2-2. Hernandez and Ramos were the only other hits in the game. Game 4: won by Forfeit Clinton%u2019s overall record is 4-1 heading into next week%u2019s Tuesday at Ida, then home against Hanover Horton Friday.
